This morning I jogged to E. 90th, did drills and strides and jogged back. This in preparation for tomorrow at 8:00am when I will line up with 7,000 other women for the 40th running of the NY Mini 10k!! I will be in good company with the likes of defending champion Linet Masai, Deena Kastor, Magdalena Lewy Boulet, Kim Smith and Liliya Shobukhova (2010 Chicago and London Marathon champion). The women-only race was first run in 1972, its name a play on the race distance and the miniskirt, a hit fashion at the time. This year the race will be dedicated to running legend and five-time Mini winner Grete Waitz. The course starts in front of the Time Warner building at Columbus Circle on Central Park West, enters the park at W. 90th, completes the remainder of the Park’s outer loop and finishes at Tavern on the Green on W. 67th.
The NYAC team manager was able to get me into the professional field of the race based on the times I ran at Princeton so I was invited to attend the technical meeting at The Warwick (host hotel) in Times Square! NYRR President and CEO Mary Wittenberg opened up the meeting with an introduction, passing off to NYRR Professional Athletes Consultant David Monti. David explained the course, prize money breakdown ($16,000 for the winner), and the chip timing. After the meeting I picked up the coolest bib EVER (see above) and my race t-shirt. I’m super excited for tomorrow!!!
